The Federal Government has approved the sum of $1.70 for its Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity – Governance (HOPE – Governance) and the inter-related Primary Health Care Provision Strengthening (HOPE -PHC) projects.
The approvals were made at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held recently.
While the HOPE -PHC project aims to improve utilisation of quality essential health care services and health system resilience in the country, governance reforms entrenched in HOPE-Governance will support improvements in healthcare financing; enhance transparency and accountability; increase recruitment, deployment and performance management of primary healthcare workers by Federal, State and Local governments.
A statement from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, explained that the HOPE -PHC project will be driven by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare while the HOPE -Governance project will be anchored by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning
Last year Federal Government announced that it is to benefit from a 500 million loan facility from the World Bank for the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) project in the country.
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu At the time said the loan facility will increase the availability and effectiveness for financing for basic education and primary health care in the various states of the federation.
He said the fund will enhance transparency and accountability for basic education and primary health care in addition to improving recruitments, deployments and better performance management of Teachers.
