…rescue 18 girls from trafficking
The Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Kano, on Wednesday averted a criminal attempt to break in and loot food items at the government owned grain warehouse in Kano.
The Navy Command also rescued 18 female persons who were being trafficked out of Kano to Libya, an operation recorded after an actionable intelligence and quick response
Commandant of the Naval College, Commodore Usman M. Bugaje, who revealed the development to journalists, said that the attempt by hoodlums was made during the protest by labour unions over the removal of fuel subsidy.
Commodore Bugaje the invasion which would have resulted in ugly development at the warehouse was averted following intelligence and swift deployment to secure the warehouse.
Speaking while handing over the leadership of the college to the new commandant, Naval Commodore James Kolade Adedeji, Commodore Bugaje, noted the contributions of the Navy in collaboration with other sister military formations to fortify the internal security architecture of Kano State.
Highlighting his achievements in the last one and half years at the college, the pioneer commandant of the Navy Logistics College, said there has been a stable security situation and improved economic development in the state.
Apart from security intervention, the outgoing commandant also noted that the College successfully secured the accreditation of two programmes and obtained approval from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to run and award a master’s degree in logistics and supply chain management.
“In the area of training for both officers and ratings of the NN Logistics Branch in the art of military logistics, several milestones were achieved under my watch. The welfare of the personnel also took centre stage during my tenure.
“I ensured that both finance and medical consumables were provided to ensure the wellbeing of both staff and students. A snack bar was also constructed to take care of personnel meal needs outside the feeding provided by the College,” he said.
The outgoing commandant who expressed gratitude to the Chief of Naval Staff, officers and men of the college for their support and enablement, solicited a similar spirit of cooperation to the incoming commandant.
The new Commandant, Commodore J.K Adedeji, lauded the achievements of his predecessor and pledged to consolidate and improve on the feet recorded in the college. Essentially, he said special attention would be focused on the accreditation of academic programmes, the welfare of officers and men as well as renewing cordial relationships with the host community.
