The Nigerian Petroleum National Corporation (NNPC) has stated that the nation’s crude oil production will be reduced by about 10,000 barrels of oil per day due to explosion in its facility in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 40.
The crude Production facility is operated by NNPC’s subsidiary the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), in conjunction with its partners Elcrest Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited.
A statement signed by the corporation’s spokesperson, Dr Kennie Obateru, stated that the incidence which occurred while carrying out production evacuation at Gbetiokun Early Production facility had no report of significant spill.
He added that no fatalities or injuries were recorded in the explosion.
Dr. Obateru however acknowledged that “significant damage was done to the marine storage vessel, MT Harcourt. He added that the stated damage will impact production by about 10,000barrels of oil per day”.
NNPC, he stated has since commenced investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident with a view to averting future occurrence.
