Train Station Attack: Bandits Demand N500m Ransom

Kidnappers of the passengers who were picked up while waiting to board a train at Ekehen station in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State have demanded for ransom.

It was gathered that the kidnappers contacted family members of the victims on Monday and demanded N20 million ransom for each of the kidnapped 25 victims still with them adding to N500 million.

A youth leader in the area, Benson Ordia, who confirmed the incident, said the state government has promised to survey the area.

The Edo state Command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor said he is not aware of the demand by the kidnappers

Recall that the 32 passengers were kidnapped on Saturday when gunmen invaded the station and whisked them into the bush.

Six of the victims, including three minors, were rescued by security agents in collaboration with hunters and vigilante.

Meanwhile, before the news of the ransom demand the Edo State Government has announced the rescue of six of the 31 train passengers abducted on Saturday at a train station Igueben Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr Chris Nehikhare, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. 

According to Nehikhare, the rescued persons included a 65-year-old man, a nursing mother and her baby, a 6-year-old girl and her two siblings – aged two and five.
