The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has said it has plans to establish a University as well as Polytechnic of Accountancy to upgrade the status of accountancy profession in the country.
President of the Association, Prof Muhammad Akaro Mainoma who disclosed this at ANAN’s 38th annual general meeting held virtually on Saturday, said that the Association had already begun the process of securing accreditation for establishing the University and Polytechnic.
He said in the last one year, the Association has recorded tremendous growth in the area of its set objectives.
According to him, “Part of the achievements is advancing the profession by broadening the scope of accounting education through take off of the process for the accreditation of our University and Polytechnic of Accountancy.
“In the area of development, the Association is in the process of completing a 2,500-seater ultra-modern auditorium to provide conducive learning environment at the Nigerian College of Accountancy, its training arm in Jos.
“Within the same period, the Association has reconstructed its collapsed college fence and refurbished and upgraded the College clinic to meet the required standards.”
According to the President, other achievements include the acquisition of a four-storey building situated at plot 559, Mabushi District, off Ahmadu Bello Way, Abuja, FCT for the Association’s corporate headquarters as part of efforts to reposition the Association in the comity of Professional Accounting Organisations (POAs).
Meanwhile, the Association during the AGM also ratified the election into council of four new members at the virtual AGM.
The new council members are: Alhaji Ibrahim Husaini Gidado, Alhaji Dankura Kabir Muhammad, Chief Peter Anyanwu and Dr Olaoye Sunday Adewale.
