FG Reaffirms Commitment To Improving The Living Standards Of Nigerians

The federal government has reaffirmed its determination to ensure that Nigerians enjoy a better living conditions through the provision of the right infrastructure.

President Muhammadu Buhari who gave this reassurance at the weekend during the inauguration and handing over ceremony of the erosion control works at the Faruruwa Bridge, Takai local government area, Kano State,  noted that no part of the country would suffer any neglect owing to its geographical location or political consideration.

The project was executed by the Ecological Fund Office, under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

The President who was represented by the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji  Muhammad Sabo Nanono, said, “There is no doubt that the completion of this project will positively impact the living standard of the people in this community and its environs. It will at the same time reduce the dangers associated with erosion.”

He said his administration was determined to continue with the implementation of all genuine government policies, agreement and contracts at both national and international levels.

The president said that there is no doubt that the project will provide a window of opportunities for economic growth in the community.

According to him, “This project which is one of five ecological intervention projects approved by this government for the third quarter 2018 is expected to address the twin ecological problems of flooding and erosion within this community and its environs.”

The President lauded the secretary to the government of the federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, and all those connected with the execution of the project for their speedy completion of the project.

He also appreciated the Takai community for their cooperation and provision of a hostility free environment during the course of the project execution.

In his remarks, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was represented by the state commissioner of Environment, Dr Kabriu Ibrahim said that the project would add value in the community, in terms of provision of access road network to the people.

The governor thanked the president for bringing the project to the community and also appreciated the SGF and his team for the completion of the project.

In a related development, the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono has inaugurated the Centre for Dryland Agriculture Farm (CDA) and Agri- Business Incubation Centre at the Bayero University, Kano.

Speaking during the ceremony Alhaji Nanono noted that the Ministry was aware of the noble achievements recorded by the CDA since its inception in 2012.

He pointed out that the nation was proud that the Centre emerged one of the best 22 African Centres of Excellence across the West and Central Africa.

According to him, “It is worth noting that the competences and the experiences gained by this Centre over the years informed my decision to include its leadership among the team of experts that are currently developing the new Agricultural policy and strategic plan for the country.”

The minister appealed to the Centre to focus on building the capacity of women, youth and small- scale farmers in modern agriculture through generating and communicating appropriate technologies and innovations capable of enhancing Agricultural productivity and income.
